Decor Statement Pieces

Guide to Choosing Unique Statement Pieces

I am a total minimalist when it comes to decorating. I usually pick one signature piece and coordinate the rest of the room around that piece. Whether your style is more minimalist, like mine, or elaborate a signature piece is always necessary to pull the decor all together. Use these signature pieces as functional elements of decor.

Bring Height to a Room

I love decor that is not only aesthetically pleasing but is also functional.’s tall Columns of Corinthian Shelving makes for a great piece to add height to a room. The intricate detail on the columns draw the eyes up. I also love the Columns of Corinthian because you can use it to divide up space. Place the signature piece between areas in an open floor plan to give new meaning to the spaces.  The functional shelving is just the cherry on the top!

Choose a Conversation Starter

My husband and I greatly enjoy hosting dinner and cocktail parties in our home. When choosing decor I go for a signature piece that will act as a conversation starter. By definition the piece should be interesting and unique. When conversation lulls, you need a piece that will spark interest.’s Italian Replica Globe fits the bill.  The globe is wrapped with replica 16th-century nautical maps from the National Museum of Science, Florence, Italy. This surely will incite conversation of world exploration and the tales that come along with travel.

Another perk of the Italian Replica Globe is it’s functionality.  Use it as a creative means to store stem-wear and your fine collection wines and liquors. The rich colors, uniqueness, and functionality make it an excellent signature piece.

Consider Room Size

When deciding upon a signature piece it is important to consider the size of the room you are decorating. A smaller space does not necessarily mean you have to skimp on decor.

However, often I find smaller spaces harder to decorate. We have an ‘L’ shaped living area with a fireplace in the smaller area. The ceilings are taller so it leaves that area feeling empty. To combat this problem I choose a taller, decorative lamp to give that area a unique touch. I also like the idea of adding light to smaller spaces. Doing so makes the area feel bigger.

The Empire-Style Woman Torchiere Lamp Sculpture is a beautiful way to bring a signature piece into a smaller area. The lamp is six feet tall and blends art, architecture and functionality into one piece. Have I mentioned how much I love functionality in decor?

I covered the basics. Do you have any tips to share in choosing a signature piece?
