The massive Christ the Redeemer measuring 125 feet tall and 92 feet wide sits atop a mountain  Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park. It is the largest Art Deco statue in the world.

The statue is composed of reinforced concrete and soapstone.  It was erected in 1931  and funded by the Catholic Circle of Rio.

The statue has been restored several times over the years. The church that manages Christ the Redeemer owns stock of the same soapstone it was constructed with to make repairs, such as lightening strikes.
