Garden statuary

Let’s hear your thoughts! Who do you think would win an epic duel between Hercules vs. Achilles?

Farnese Hercules Large Statue

Farnese Hercules Large Statue

It’s no wonder Hercules is portrayed to the point of exhaustion in this sculpture, The Farnese Hercules Statue. Famously Hercules had a huge ‘to-do’ list, known as the “Twelve Labors.” Make no mistake Hercules was no hero to mess with. Among those “Twelve Labors” was slaying a ferocious tiger which makes him a tough contender in our Mythological Duel.  The Farnese Hercules Statue was sculpted circa 330 B.C. and is now located in Museo Nazionale, Naples. This replica is from the Curators Collection: direct cast of a museum original. Cast in quality designer resin from a museum original, it is finished to replicate weathered stone, adding sophisticated style to your home or garden gallery.

Achilles was the bravest of all Greeks as told in the stories of the Trojan Wars. Mythology portrays Achilles as powerful, cruel and arrogant, given to violent outbursts of temper. Nevertheless, to many he was a symbol of youth and bravery who was doomed to an early but glorious death, a hero of epic dimensions. Of course we all know his only weakness that lead to his demise, his heel. Achilles Sculptural Bust is made of bonded stone here in our Statue.com artisan work shop and is a Statue.com exclusive.

Works such as The Bather, the Four Seasons, and the more contemporary female are also very popular. Many of these pieces are actually internally piped and functional fountains. Garden Patron Saints

Spring has sprung… I am trying very hard to ignore the fact that it is still so cold outside. But alas we have crossed the threshold of the Spring equinox. I don’t know about you, but I am itching to get into my garden. We purchased a new home late last summer. This will be my first gardening season in this house.

Following our theme of a blog post about a Saint each week of March, I thought I would share some Patron Saints that might just bring good blessings to your garden… whether it be veggie or flower.

Saint Francis

Founder of the Franciscans, he is often shown preaching to the birds. In Nature’s Sanctuary Saint Francis Garden Sculpture will be a religious and nature focal point will leave your guests in awe! Saint Francis rises over three feet high on his generous, four-foot-long log perch. This Italian patron saint of nature reaches toward the gentle lamb at his feet, showcasing amazing detail from the folds of his garment to his benevolent expression. The artist captures intricacies sometimes lost in sculpts this grand in scale, casting our exclusive in quality designer resin as an heirloom for decades to come.

Saint Therese

Saint Therese – Theresa Statue 25″ High

Our Saint Therese of Lisieux Therese Martin statue is a sculpted likeness of this beloved woman. She was cured from an illness at age 8 when a statue of the Blessed Virgin smiled at her. Many lives have been touched by her intercession. Prior to her death, she vowed, to “Spend my heaven doing good on earth. I will let fall a shower of roses .” For this she is the Patron Saint of Florists.  Her roses continue to fall everywhere in the world to those who pray for her intercession. Saint Therese Statue would make a beautiful addition to any rose garden.

Saint Fiacre Garden Sculpture is made of cast stone and is wonderful for the home or garden. Saint Fiacre was born in Ireland and raised in a monastery. Much of mankind learning and knowledge was brought to the monasteries and left in the care and protection of the monks. Travelers brought seeds and plant material, as well as cultural enlightenment from as far away as Rome and the Holy Land. Saint. Fiacres days at the monastery taught him a deep love of silence, the joys of planting and harvesting crops and an appreciation of nature. Drawn to the religious life and the desire to serve God in solitude, Fiacre decided to establish a hermitage for worship. Monks in those days were regarded as physicians of the body as well as the soul. Soon people were flocking to Fiacre for prayers, food and healing. He fed the hungry and healed the sick with herbs from his garden and prayed for all who came there. From his work be became Patron Saint of vegetable Garden and men who like to garden.  Our spiritual garden figurine of Saint Fiacre is cast in cast stone to add a meditative and miraculous presence to your own Eden. Saint JudeEver feel like there is just no hope? Well, Saint Jude, Patron Saint of Lost Causes is your man. The Church recognizes St. Jude as the Patron Saint of Lost Causes because he urged his followers to persevere through hardship, just as their forefathers had done before them.

St. Jude

St. Jude

Ever wonder about St. Jude iconography depicted by our statuary? St. Jude is often holding an image of Jesus in his hand or close to his heart. This can attributed to being one of Jesus’ Twelve Apostles. He is also depicted with a flame over his head. This represents his presence at the Pentecost, when he is said to have received the Holy Spirit, along with the other Apostles. In other sculptures he is seen holding a staff or club.

Saint Jude sculptures make a lovely addition to any church, prayer garden or meditation spot. Whether it lends its calming or a special meditative presence to your garden or spiritual, indoors or outdoors, you won’t find a more moving image than our highly detailed St. Jude sculptures. We hope you take time to browse our extensive religious gallery. January Dream

“Anyone who thinks gardening begins in the spring and ends in the fall is missing the best part of the whole year; for gardening begins in January with a dream.” ~ Josephine Nuese

We shared this quote a while back on our Pinterest and Facebook but some how it escaped the blog. While January is behind us (thank goodness) we still have a ways to go in the Midwest before we see thawing and blooming. That doesn’t mean a girl can’t dream, right? What garden style do you dream of?

Cento Urn On 6' Pool Fountain

Cento Urn On 6′ Pool Fountain

My dream style is one that mixes the deep South (think Charleston and Savannah) with the formality of English gardens. I love the idea of mixing the Massarelli’s  Carnelian Mountain finish Cento Urn with the pop of bright colors from azaleas and roses. I can almost hear the fountain flowing now.

Unfortunately, Spanish moss does not fair well with our deep freezes but I do love the evergreen look of Spanish Moss providing a romantic backdrop.

Dancing Girl of the Wind Bronze Garden Statue

Dancing Girl of the Wind Bronze Garden Statue

Of course my dream garden would not be complete without statuary. The Dancing Girl statue gives my dream garden the formality of the English Garden… despite her free spirit.

My grandmother use to line walkways of her garden with mint, rosemary, lavender and various other herbs. Her beautiful logic was that when one passed through it would create a fragrant journey.  I hope to do the same this year when the frost subsides.

I am also looking forward to the chirping of our winged friends. No perfect garden is complete without a birdbath and birdhouse.

What does your dream garden include? What are you dreaming about the most in your garden? We would love to help you make your dream garden a reality!

In our gallery you will find gorgeous Buddha sculptures and statuary. Some are serious and others are sure to put a smile on your face. We would like to dedicate this blog to our favorite Buddha statues and famous Gautama Buddha quotes as well. We hope this adds a smile to your Sunday. Happy viewing!

Buddha Meditating

Meditation

“Do not look for a sanctuary in anyone except your self.”

“Meditate.
Live purely. Be quiet.
Do your work with mastery.
Like the moon, come out
from behind the clouds!
Shine.”

“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.”

“Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue.”

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.”

Buddha Laughing Hoi Toi Face Garden Sculpture

Happiness

“There is no path to happiness: happiness is the path.”

“Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.”

“Praise and blame, gain and loss, pleasure and sorrow come and go like the wind. To be happy, rest like a giant tree in the midst of them all”

“Radiate boundless love towards the entire world — above, below, and across — unhindered, without ill will, without enmity.”

Traveling Buddha

Journey

“If a traveler does not meet with one who is his better, or his equal, let him firmly keep to his solitary journey; there is no companionship with a fool.”

“It is better to travel, than to arrive”

“On life’s journey faith is nourishment, virtuous deeds are a shelter, wisdom is the light by day and right mindfulness is the protection by night. If a man lives a pure life, nothing can destroy him.”

“The way is not in the sky. The way is in the heart.”

“Following the Noble Path is like entering a dark room with a light in the hand; the darkness will all be cleared away, and the room will be filled with light.”

Archer Rhiannon Garden Fairy Sculpture

Fairies have been spreading their mischief in folklore, literature and art for centuries. The Fairies we have in Statue.com’s gallery are derived from Victorian Era. The commonly heard term Fairy Tale was also derived from this time. Within the Victorian Era there was a battling between Gothic and Classical styles. This blend can be seen in the Archer Rhiannon Garden Fairy Sculpture. The way she has her bow drawn is purely classical but yet her wings give off a more Gothic vibe.

Celtic Fairy Perilous Perch

The Celtic Fairy Perilous Perch sculpture weighs more heavily on the Gothic realm. With her crouch and expression it appears she is up to no good. She also appears to be more on the darker side of mischief. There are many different themes of Fairies. Some folklore holds Fairies tiny trouble makers whereas other variations fairies are mortal threat to humans.  I certainly would not want rub this Celtic Fairy the wrong way.

The Art Nouveau movement during the late 19th century would also embrace Fairies in a more classical style. Art Nouveau  embodied curved lines and natural movement. Art Nouveau was an important transition from Early 19th Century and 20th Century modernist styles.
