Waving Savannah Girl Sculpture

Waving Savannah Girl Sculpture Designer Resin Finish

The Waving Savannah Girl is one of Savannah, Georgia’s best loved tales. Legend has it, Florence Martus fell in love with a handsome young sailor from a distant port (some say Greece or Italy) who asked her to marry him upon his return to Savannah, then sailed off in to the horizon.

She never saw him again, but took up the practice of waving her long apron during the day and lantern by night to greet each ship which entered Savannah’s harbor. This went on for 44 years!

A statue dedicated to The Waving Savannah Girl is located at the eastern end of River Street, overlooking the Savannah River. The statue was sclupted by renowned sculptor Felix De Weldon and depicts Florence waving her apron  with her beloved loyal collie standing by.
