Art Deco Peacock Maidens Illuminated

Have I mentioned how much I love our Art Deco collection? No? Well, I really do. For those of you not familiar with Art Deco, it originated in France in the 1920s and became popular worldwide in the ’30s and ’40s. The style blends craft motifs with Machine Age imagery , think clean lines, rich colors and extravagant ornamentation. During it’s time, Art Deco represented glitz, glam and making technological progress towards a modern era. From fashion to architecture, it’s inspiration for design was wide reaching. Art Deco was used quite a bit for railway stations, ocean liners and grand theaters. The Art Deco Peacock Maidens just exudes brilliance of this era. It makes me want to take a trip back in time to attend the theater in a fancy dress or go on a grand voyage.

The era Art Deco was popularized was a turbulent one. The world was dealing with the Great Depression, just came out of one World War and was about to experience another. These pieces of art truly capture civilization attempting to move forward with beauty and grace.
